Welcome to the Canadian Shale Water Management 2024 Exhibition and Conference, where shale operators, supply and service companies from across the region will meet with leading water management experts and key regulators in Calgary, Alberta, to explore new cost-effective water treatment, sourcing, disposal, and storage solutions exclusively for the region.
New initiatives toward more efficient and cost-effective water management solutions are being explored as operators seek optimal performance and low-cost water management strategies in line with the latest regulations and environmental considerations, ensuring long-term operational security.
With the challenges of keeping OPEX down to a minimum, operators face difficult choices for managing produced water, either adopting a low-cost disposal strategy or engaging in a “treatment for reuse” plan. While the operating costs can vary depending on the proximity of the producing wells to local water-disposal facilities, generally, 60 to 70 percent of the total cost is attributed to water-hauling and transportation. Where possible, operators are finding new and innovative options to recycle, and reuse produced water for cost-effective and stable solutions.
With developments in treatment technologies and recent innovations in shale water management, the Canadian Shale Water Management 2024 conference is set to become the region’s leading exhibition and conference exclusively for shale operators and a large array of supply and service providers to explore new opportunities in water management, water recycling, and water reuse to improve operational efficiencies and maintain profitability for both pre-existing wells and new operations. While referring to the largest wells, these technologies and operations best practices apply to all regional formations.
The key focus for this year’s conference will be “Water Strategies for Canadian Operators”. The objective is to bring operators and service companies together with leading water management experts, including local government representatives, to collaborate and examine new opportunities in water sourcing, treatment, disposal, and storage solutions and to address the challenges in water management for shale wells across Western Canada.
