The book aims to provide practical help for researchers and industry specialists who are interested in using the new science and technology to improve their knowledge and experience in the field of intelligent virtual assistant (IVA).

An IVA is a software agent that can perform tasks or services for an individual based on commands or questions. Some virtual assistants can interpret human speech and respond via synthesized voices. Users can ask their questions from an IVA, control home automation devices and media playback via voice, and manage other basic tasks such as e-mail, to-do lists, and calendars with verbal commands.

IVAs work via text, including online chat, SMS Text, e-mail, or another text-based communication channel; Voice; and Image processing. Virtual assistants use natural language processing (NLP) to match user text or voice input to executable commands. Many continually learn using artificial intelligence techniques, including machine learning.

The applications of IVAs are growing very fast, and the Objective of the book is to provide a concise overview of the state of the art of IVA for industrial researchers.
